Compound interest doesn’t work only in financial investing; it also works in investing in self-development. That’s why you should never underestimate the power of tiny, daily improvements.

For a Scrum Master, Kaizen is the key to unlocking the team’s true potential. Instead of waiting for the Retrospective, foster a culture where improvement is constant. A retrospective by itself is not improvement—it’s a report that we aren’t improving, or not improving effectively. Kaizen turns retrospectives from a formality into a culture of continuous improvement.

♻️ Core Kaizen Principles

1. Gemba A Japanese word that literally means “the real place”—the place where the work actually happens and value is created. Kaizen teaches that to understand a problem and improve processes, you must go directly where the work is done—“Go to Gemba.” Stop asking “What can we improve?” only in meetings. Start observing real work in real time and see where obstacles appear. Goal: see, ask, listen, learn—and only then propose solutions.

2. Hansei A Japanese concept that can be translated as “deep self-reflection.” The essence is to openly admit what didn’t go well—without excuses or blaming others. Understand why the error or gap happened, not just state the result. Then propose concrete steps to prevent it from happening again. Hansei is the fuel for Kaizen—without regular reflection there is nothing to improve.

3.
