In a Scrum environment, it can appear in several ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3\"><strong>Planning and Estimation:<\/strong> The team sets optimistic time estimates for completing tasks and subconsciously looks only for evidence that supports those estimates. Possible risks or obstacles? They\u2019re barely noticed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Retrospectives:<\/strong> When reviewing a sprint, team members mostly recall what confirms their own views on what worked or didn\u2019t work. An objective perspective gets less space.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Customer Feedback:<\/strong> The team might prioritize positive feedback that confirms their assumptions about the product and ignore criticism that could reveal weaknesses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daily Standups:<\/strong> Team members may downplay issues and focus only on what\u2019s going well\u2014seeking confirmation that they\u2019re on the right track.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\">These situations aren\u2019t caused by bad intentions\u2014this is simply how our brains save energy. The problem arises when this filter prevents us from seeing the full picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\">\u26a0\ufe0f <strong>The Negative Impact on Individuals and Teams ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\">Confirmation bias isn\u2019t just a minor annoyance\u2014it can have serious consequences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7\"><strong>Reduced Adaptability:<\/strong> Agile is about flexibility and continuous improvement. If teams ignore information that doesn\u2019t match their views, they lose the ability to respond quickly to change.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unrealistic Planning:<\/strong> This leads to stress, frustration, and unmet goals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ignoring Critical Feedback:<\/strong> Avoiding negative input hinders growth and leads to repeating the same mistakes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Faulty Decision-Making:<\/strong> When decisions are based on distorted data, priorities can shift in the wrong direction, resources are wasted, and results fall short of expectations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8 wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine a team that believes their process is great simply because they focus on positive signals. Over time, they lose touch with reality\u2014which is the opposite of what Agile promotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-9 wp-block-paragraph\">\u2705 <strong>How to Avoid Confirmation Bias and Move Forward ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-10 wp-block-paragraph\">The good news is that we can mitigate this bias. Here are a few practical tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-11\"><strong>Foster a Culture of Openness:<\/strong> Create an environment where it\u2019s safe to share differing views.
